Losing My Virginity

Like most girls, I always imagined that when the time came for me to lose my virginity, it would be exactly like what you saw in the movies. I would walk into a room filled with candles, rose petals spread out everywhere, and soft music playing in the background. In reality, my experience was the complete opposite.

What does losing your virginity mean?

ms-unapologetic-lifestyle-blog-sex-and-dating-losing-my-virginityAccordingly to plannedparenthood.org, “a virgin is someone who’s never had sex.” However, sex is not a simple word to define. It’s more of a concept. To different people, sex could mean oral, vaginal, or even anal. Some people feel that you’re still a virgin if you do not penetrate vaginally or anally. If you give head or lick the vagina only, you’re still a virgin in layman’s terms. My opinion, honestly, I don’t care. You define it how you want.

My Virginity Story

October 7th, 2016, I was 16 years old. Yes, I remember the date. I was at home alone and decided it was good to invite my boyfriend over while my mom was at work. Little did I know that decision would change my life forever. When he arrived, I was getting ready to shower because I had just left cheer practice and was all sweaty and gross. He decided to get in the shower with me, and a make-out session began. I should have known then what would happen, but I was naive and thought nothing of it. After we both got out, we continued our make-out session on my bed. Welp, needless to say, he took it upon himself to stick his dick inside. At first, I was shocked and honestly wasn’t ready, but it was happening, and I accepted it. Before you go crazy, looking back and knowing what I know now, this technology can be considered rape or even sexual assault. HOWEVER, it was my choice to continue.

My mother and I have always had open communication, and she told me the day I decided to lose my virginity, I needed to let her know to get on birth control. I was nervous, but my boyfriend and I decided to be mature and tell her together. She immediately scheduled a doctor’s appointment, and that’s when things got real. ms-unapologetic-lifestyle-blog-sex-and-dating-virginity

My mother made my boyfriend come to the appointment with us so that my doctor could explain STDs, HIV, pregnancy, and the proper use of condoms. The entire thing was highly embarrassing, and to add more paint to the situation, my mom made me feel incredibly guilty for what I had done. My boyfriend sat in the waiting room while I got my first pap smear and birth control prescription. When it was all over, I was balling like a baby. We got in the car and drove my boyfriend back to school while my mom and I sat together having a real heart-to-heart. She apologized, took me to Dairy Queen for lunch, and all was right with the world again.

In reality, losing your virginity is different for everyone, but it should always be your choice and something you should cherish for the rest of your life.

The plot twist to the story: I’m sure people wonder if it hurt and did I bleed, and the answer to both questions is no. To put it nicely, my boyfriend was not well endowed, and I ended up cheating on him with someone else who broke my hymen, and I ruined his sheets. That’s a much bigger story for a different day.
